Morocco has a surf season for almost everyone

Morocco’s Atlantic coast is one of those rare places where a surf trip can work in every season. The experience changes through the year: summer tends to bring smaller, friendlier waves and warm, long days, while autumn through spring delivers more consistent swells for surfers with a little experience.

In Tamraght, close to Taghazout and Agadir, a short drive gives us access to a useful variety of breaks. That means the best time is less about finding one perfect month and more about matching the conditions to your confidence in the water.

Summer: June to September

Summer is a lovely choice for first-time surfers, families and travellers who want the surf to sit naturally alongside beach days and exploring. The Atlantic is generally calmer, the weather is reliably sunny and the rhythm of the coast is beautifully relaxed.

There can still be playful waves, especially at exposed beaches, but it is wise to come with flexible expectations: this is the season for learning fundamentals, enjoying the water and soaking up the wider Moroccan coast.

  • Best for: beginners, yoga-and-surf escapes and sunny coastal holidays
  • What to expect: smaller swells, warmer days and an easy pace
  • Bring: swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen and a light layer for evenings

Autumn and spring: October to November, March to May

For many travelling surfers, the shoulder months offer the sweet spot. Swells are more regular than summer, temperatures remain comfortable and the coastline has a little more energy without feeling like a full winter mission.

This can be an excellent window for improvers who are ready to move beyond the basics. We choose the most suitable break day by day, so you can build confidence without being pushed into conditions that feel beyond you.

Winter: December to February

Winter is the classic Moroccan surf season. Atlantic storms send powerful, consistent swell toward the coast, bringing the famous point breaks around Taghazout to life. It is a brilliant time for confident intermediates and experienced surfers looking for more quality water time.

Beginners can still have a great trip in winter, particularly with a flexible surf plan and the right beach break. The important thing is to be open about your level so your sessions can be planned safely and enjoyably.

Our honest answer: choose the trip that suits you

No one can promise a particular wave on a particular day. What makes a Tamraght surf trip work is local knowledge, a flexible plan and choosing the package that fits your experience. Share your dates and surf level with us, and we will help you decide what the coast is likely to offer.
